Making A Dynamic Return!

The Kamuela Philharmonic makes its highly-anticipated return to Kahilu Theatre

KAMUELA, HI–Sunday, September 25, 2022, at 2:00 PM, the Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra (KPO) will perform live at Kahilu Theatre for the first time in nearly two years with A Dynamic Return. The Philharmonic’s season-opening concert, conducted by KPO Artistic Director and Conductor Brian Dollinger, presents music by Beethoven and Mendelssohn and the Hawaiian premiere of a piece by American composer David Stern.

“Returning to the Kahilu Theatre stage to perform in front of our audience is something the Philharmonic has been looking forward to for a long time,” stated Dollinger. “Our audience shows so much appreciation and emotion for what they experience at our concerts—it’s always moving. Getting back to this energy and relationship will be very special.”

The works presented in A Dynamic Return exemplify the notion of the world around us moving forward during these trying times. Mendelssohn’s The Hebrides has many moments depicting rolling waves. Beethoven’s popular Symphony No. 7 is a whirlwind of motion as it weaves its way through each movement. Stern’s Rhapsody for Violin and Strings is a heartfelt and moving work for violin and string orchestra that will showcase KPO Concertmaster Ursula Vietze.

“There is such an amazing and vast collection of repertoire to choose from when I begin to program a concert; it is one of the most enjoyable parts of being a symphony orchestra conductor,” Dollinger added. “This concert features music that moves in your imagination; moves with driving rhythm; and moves your soul.

“I am pleased to premiere one of David Stern’s works for our audience. Mr. Stern is a music pedagogue and composer that I had the privilege of studying with during my Doctor of Arts studies at Ball State University,” he added. “I have found that his music connects with people deeply, and I enjoy promoting and performing his work. I believe our audience will respond very well to this piece, and this performance.”
