Journey north as the Kamuela Philharmonic opens its 2026/27 season with MasterWorks I: Colors of Scandinavia, an exploration of the extraordinary musical landscapes of Finland and Norway.
The program begins with Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara’s spirited Divertimento, followed by one of the most beloved works of the Romantic repertoire: Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor, featuring special guest pianist Dr. Thomas Yee. Filled with sweeping melodies, dramatic contrasts, and unmistakable Nordic character, Grieg’s concerto has captivated audiences since its premiere.
The journey continues to Finland with Jean Sibelius’ monumental Symphony No. 2, a work that grows from an intimate opening into a soaring, triumphant finale.
From vibrant orchestral color to breathtaking Romantic expression, Colors of Scandinavia launches the season with music as dramatic and expansive as the landscapes that inspired it.

The Kahilu Theatre is located in the green rolling hills of Waimea (aka Kamuela), at 2700 ft elevation in the South Kohala district of Hawai`i Island. The theatre was founded in 1980 by Richard Smart—heir to the Parker Ranch and accomplished Broadway actor—and has a 484-seat concert hall, a Black Box performance venue, as well as two gallery spaces.
Kahilu Theatre presents dynamic performers from all over the world and around the state to Hawai’i Island residents and visitors, and it is home to the Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra during our 2019-2020 Concert Season. For more information visit the Kahilu Theatre website.
