About Bill
Bill Scahllenberg was born at Kapiʻolani Maternity Hospital on Oʻahu in the Trust Territory of Hawaiʻi. As a child, Bill lived aboard a sailboat docked in the Ala Wai Boat Harbor, accompanying his parents on voyages throughout the South Pacific and the Hawaiian Islands.
A proud graduate of ʻIolani School, Bill was among many classmates whose pursuit of higher education and careers led them away from the islands. He attended graduate school in Washington, D.C., where he joined the American Institute of Architects as the staff lead for long-term strategy development. Following this, he spent over 20 years with Marriott International, where he was responsible for developing and leading online consumer-direct sales and marketing efforts, including marriott.com and mobile applications.
After retiring, Bill returned to Hawaiʻi in 2022, settling on Hawai‘i Island. There, he discovered the Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra and quickly became a season ticket holder and avid supporter of the organization’s creative aspirations and exceptional musical productions.
Bill’s lifelong love of music has taken him to performances of classical, jazz, opera, and pop music at the Honolulu International Center (HIC), the Kennedy Center, and venues around the world. He strongly believes the Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra is both a vital cultural asset for Hawaiʻi and a meaningful reflection of its people.
As a member of the Board of Directors, Bill is honored to help strengthen KPO’s brand and ensure its growth for future generations of musicians and music lovers alike.
