About Peggy
Peggy Kent has had music woven into her life since childhood. Growing up on a farm in rural Nevada, she was surrounded by music thanks to her mother, who taught in the local school system. Peggy spent countless hours practicing piano and went on to win the Nevada State Piano Competition while in high school. She also played clarinet in marching band and classical competitions, as well as the bassoon.
Initially majoring in music in college—perhaps at her mother’s encouragement—Peggy supported herself by playing piano in jazz bands and at a piano bar in a local casino. She later shifted her studies to chemistry and engineering, launching a distinguished career in the mining industry. Peggy eventually became Chief Executive Officer of a $2 billion publicly traded mining company with more than 2,000 employees. Her work took her around the world, and whenever possible, she made a point of attending local musical performances. Music remained a cherished outlet throughout her career—so much so that she invested in a Steinway grand piano, which she still treasures today.
Over the years, Peggy has received numerous awards for her professional achievements. A former Rotarian, she has served on several nonprofit boards and has been a property owner on Hawai‘i Island for more than 30 years. After retiring from her executive career, she and her family moved to the island full-time in 2011. Today, Peggy is a licensed real estate broker with Lava Luxury Realty, a role that allows her to connect with the community and support local arts and music. Her children graduated from Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy, during which time the family explored every corner of the island, attending their activities.
Peggy is a significant supporter of the Hawai‘i Performing Arts Festival and remains an avid lover of all kinds of music. Her hobbies include working out, swimming, biking, and competing in triathlons across the island. She and her husband are frequent attendees at events at Kahilu Theatre.
