Educational Outreach

Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra Education Outreach Programs

We at the Kamuela Philharmonic believe that the youth are the future

Because of that belief, one of our primary initiatives is to help bolster, improve, and in some cases add to Hawai‘i Island’s music education of our young students by exposing them to classical music in a fully rounded context.

Music In The Schools

Elementary School Music Appreciation Class

KPOS brings a small ensemble of musicians into our public, Title 1 Elementary Schools around Hawaii island to introduce children to musical instruments of the orchestra and live music through a Music Appreciation Class, introducing them to classical and symphonic music. Our goal is to spark the interest of students who might consider playing an instrument or learning more about classical music. Each session includes the students participating by listening, singing, or clapping along to a familiar Disney or popular song they are familiar with as the ensemble performs the music.

Middle and High School Music Appreciation Class

KPOS brings a small ensemble of musicians into our public, Title 1 Middle and High Schools around Hawaii island to introduce young adults to musical instruments and live music through a Music Appreciation Class. This class introduces them to classical and symphonic music while teaching them some basic music history and theory. Each session includes the students participating by listening, singing or clapping to familiar Movie scores and/or classical excerpts.

Middle and High School Master Class

KPOS brings professional musicians into the Middle and High-schools that already have existing Music Programs. We work side-by-side, presenting individual instruction, in a Master Class setting, to budding student musicians who could use additional training on their specific instrument. This helps strengthen your school’s Orchestra and/or Band program, supplementing what the school music programs already offer.

Education Concerts

Students are invited to attend a free Music Education concert. During these concerts, the students are taught about the instruments in an orchestra, all while listening to an orchestral concert. During these concerts, the students learn music history, music theory, information about the composers of the music they just heard, and about the actual pieces. Many students tell us that this was their first time hearing a live orchestra.
